Song of the Week!

Waitng for the End...

Introduction..
Hey everyone.  Thanks for visiting the official SamMountz Music blog.  This week is gonna be a little different.  Instead of my regular "Artist of the Week," I decided to mix things up a bit and highlight a great song I heard on the Internet.

The song is called "Waiting for the End," by Linking Park.  Now I know exactly what you're thinking.  "Linkin Park?  Cmon Sam... you can do better than that."  But to be honest...this is one of the most original songs I've heard in a long time.  The song starts out with what we would all expect from Linkin Park.  A solo guitar riff with a sick effect on it.  But then comes in an amazing beat.  This beat is my favorite and I like to call it the "Street Beat."  The band by the name of Crash Kings uses this beat a lot and it sounds amazing.  On top of this beat, Linkin Park also adds power chords with the guitar and a repeating piano rhythm.  I was really impressed at this point, but I thought that this was all I was gonna like.  Then the band comes in with vocals.  These vocals were not only good, but they sang the best part of the song.  This intro including the vocals had a good feel to it, and it sounded full.  Kind of like a big crowd was singing along.  At the end of this intro, everything cuts out and the lead singer comes in with some major U2/Bono styles.  He owned it too.  While the verse is being played, slowly the "Street Beat" is layered on top of everything to create a great song.  You really have to listen to the song to know what I'm talking about.  So take a listen!  Check it out!

Once again, the song is called "Waiting for the End," by Linkin Park.

Thanks for reading!

The "Sunday Obsession" Obsession!

Hey everyone!  Thanks for stopping by the SamMountz Music blog for this week's "Artist of the Week."  This spotlight is to give great artists exposure.  The "Artist of the Week" post is updated every Thursday night.  So please tune in each week!  And feel free to visit throughout the week before the post for special extras on some of my impulsive posts.

We're going outside of the Pennsylvania borders this week for a West Virginia group by the name of Sunday Obsession.  It's no question that these guys are making a name for themselves online as well as in their local music industry.

Quick Description?

Sunday Obsession can be described in one word.  Energetic.  These guys bring a great live show to the playing field.  The vocals are extremely good, and everything falls together in a great mix ('the musical elements blend well' for anyone who didn't know what that meant.  As for recordings, they not only sound professional, but different.  The vibe from their live show compared to the vibe coming from their recordings show two different elements of their passion.  Basically, they have different ways of getting their message across to fans.

Interview!

Q:  What is the sole purpose of your music?
A:   I have to say that the sole purpose in our music is to target people that think Christians are just bible reading, church going, bible thumpers. We aim to show them that in our music that it's not always about straight up saying "I love you Jesus" in each and every song. We want to show people that our music is just as good as any secular bands music, but we try to bring a positive influence and songs that everyday people can compare to

Q:  What are some pros and cons of being a Christian rock band?
When we chose to become a Christian band we knew it would come with its pros and cons. On the positive side, through the ministry that God has given us we have the opportunity to reach a diverse group of people. I feel that because of our age we have a larger influence on the teenage crowd, which is about the time where they are going through changes spiritually and mentally. So I'm thankful that we are able to kind of put our foot in the door and spread the seeds that God has given us to sow. I cant say there are any negatives more like challenges to overcome. Because we are a Christian band we have a reputation to uphold, not only our reputation but that of our Savior. We have to be extra careful of what we say, what we do, how we act etc. These challenges and opportunities have molded us into the band we are today!

Q:  How would you describe your live show?
We've seen a lot of bands get on the stage, play there music, get off the stage and not say a word. For the people watching its kind of uncomfortable. So when we play we like to make the audience feel like they're a part of the family. Also at the start and end of every show we always invite the audience to come and hang out with us.

What's it like working out of West Virginia?
We've seen a lot of bands get on the stage, play there music, get off the stage and not say a word. For the people watching its kind of uncomfortable. So when we play we like to make the audience feel like they're a part of the family. Also at the start and end of every show we always invite the audience to come and hang out with us.

Q:  What did you guys want to be when you were kids?
3/4 of us we're home schooled since middle school so we actually aspired to be musicians since we we're in like 8th grade. Jeremiah wanted to be a music engineer while in high school and actually chased that dream right out of high school. But now we all follow the same dream, to be poor musicians that one day wish to hit it big! haha

Q:  What are some of your influences?
Paramore, Switchfoot, Needtobreathe, Run Kid Run, Stellar Kart, Anberlin, David Crowder, Skillet, etc..

Q:  What is one message that you would want to get across to your fans?
Hard work always pays off! Keeps your eyes fixed on Christ and Christ alone!! Be thankful for what God has given you and remember who you are and where you came from! Don't let egos get in the way!
